First Steps in Music

  • First Steps in Music: Infants and Toddlers

    First Steps in Music is a research-based curriculum for infants and toddlers (approximately ages 0-2) that draws from the rich heritage of authentic folk music and classic song literature for young children. The First Steps teacher will lead parents and children through a delightful journey of wiggles and tickles, tapping and clapping activities, simple songs, and lullabies. Participants will find pure joy in revisiting familiar tunes and learning new delightful rhymes and songs to share. First Steps provides opportunities for the very youngest children to explore various elements of music and grow in their awareness of the concepts of beat, rhythm, pitch, and movement. These lessons and experiences set them on the path of a lifetime of musical appreciation and excellence.

  • First Steps in Music: Preschool

    First Steps in Music is a research-based curriculum for preschoolers (approximately ages 3-5) that draws from the rich heritage of authentic folk music and classic song literature for young children. Using practical delivery and catchy fingerplays, action songs, circle games, songtales, and lullabies, students (along with their parents) will find pure joy in developing their innate musical abilities. Participants will find pure joy in revisiting familiar tunes and learning new delightful rhymes and songs to share. First Steps provides opportunities for preschoolers to explore various elements of music and grow in their awareness of the concepts of beat, rhythm, pitch, and movement. These lessons and experiences set them on the path of a lifetime of musical appreciation and excellence.

Musical Explorers

  • Piano Explorers

    Piano Explorers is a 16-week group class for first-time piano students and utilizes the Piano Adventures Primer Books. In this curriculum students explore the keyboard, basic rhythm patterns, and a new language — reading on the Grand Staff. The appealing songs, why of theory, and how of technique present a wholistic music approach. Ages 7-10.

  • Violin Explorers

    Violin Explorers is a 16-week group class for first-time violin students. The course will incorporate a combination of Suzuki, Kodaly, and Rolland teaching methods. Students can expect a fun and interactive learning environment in which they will learn the fundamentals of violin playing. Ages 7-10.

Adult Group Classes

  • Adult String Ensemble

    Our Adult String Ensemble welcomes late beginner-intermediate students. This course is for students who want to gain experience playing in a group setting. Skills learned will include sight-reading, rhythm, dynamics, ensemble blending, and musicianship. Prerequisite includes at least 6 months of private lessons or submission of an audition video demonstrating a two-octave G major scale to caitlin@soundsofcarolina.com. Enrollment fee includes any sheet music needed. Ages 17 and up.
