Teacher Levels

Our music instructors are categorized into two levels based on their experience, teaching style, and the goals and expectations of their students:

Standard Teacher (Level I)

  • Target Audience: Students learning for personal enjoyment and enrichment.

  • Characteristics: Ideal for those who do not want to be pushed too hard and do not yet intend to prepare for competitions.

Senior Teacher (Level II)

  • Target Audience: More serious students, including beginners, who want to progress faster.

  • Characteristics: Offers more intensive and longer lessons. Typically holds a Master's degree. Has experience preparing students for competitions and other auditions.

Important Notes

  • Teacher levels should not be confused with student levels.

  • Beginner students can start with any teacher level depending on their goals.

  • Students who wish to achieve rapid results may start directly with a Level II teacher.

  • Students can also start with a Level I teacher and transition to a Level II teacher as they progress.

  • All students are encouraged to perform at our three annual performance opportunities.

Level I Teachers

  • Beebe Griner

    Cello & Piano; Greenville Studio

    Beebe Griner began her musical journey with the cello at the age of eight. Over the years, Beebe has showcased her talent in all-county and regional orchestras, and further honed her skills at Berklee's summer institute. She also played with the Yao for Greenville County Youth Orchestra. Currently, Beebe is pursuing a degree in Cello Performance at North Greenville University, where she continues to develop her passion and expertise in music.

  • Genevieve Goss

    Piano, Viola, Violin, Voice; Anderson & Greenville Studios

    Genavieve Goss is currently in the process of earning her Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance with a concentration of vocal performance. She has participated in choir, orchestra, voice lessons, and musical theater since she was 10 years old. She studied vocal performance under Meagan Long at Powdersville High School, Phyllis Pancella at University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and Deidre Welborn at Anderson University. Before college, she took voice lessons with

    Jamie Wright at the Fine Arts Center of Easley. She will be in her Junior year of college in Fall of 2025. As for viola experience, she was taught under Heather Raffini for 9 years.

  • Jeremiah Russell

    Guitar; Greenville Studio

    Jeremiah is a 26-year-old musician from Spartanburg, SC, who has been playing guitar for nearly 16 years. Growing up in a home filled with music, he was heavily influenced by a wide range of genres, from the classic rock and country hits of the ’80s and ’90s to contemporary church music. His deep love for music led him to explore multiple instruments over the years, including saxophone, bass, drums, and piano, further shaping his versatility as a musician. As a teacher, Jeremiah is passionate about helping others discover what inspires them, fostering their creativity, and guiding them in developing the skills they need to express themselves through music. He believes that music is a powerful tool for connection and personal growth, and he strives to make learning both engaging and meaningful for his students.

  • Josie Marlin

    Piano; Anderson Studio

    Josie has loved music for nearly as long as she can remember.  She began learning to play piano in 2013 at the age of eight, and was largely self-taught until 2017, when she started lessons with a private instructor in Kentucky.  She moved to Georgia in 2018, and began lessons with Jordan Evans at Sounds of Carolina in 2020.  Josie lives with her family in Honea Path, South Carolina where she finds joy in continuing to develop her skills in music through continued private lessons, as well as teaching her own students, ages ranging from four years old to adult.  Josie is passionate about piano, and is thankful to the Lord for the gift of music in her life.  She enjoys teaching and helping others to grow in their music abilities.  Josie plays with her brothers once a month at a nursing home, from time to time at a monthly music night hosted by a local church, as well as at their home church on occasion

  • Karisa Waldt

    Clarinet, Sax, Flute & Piano; Greenville Studio

    Karisa Waldt is a sophomore at North Greenville University, pursuing a degree in Music Education. Originally from North Carolina, she has been playing the clarinet for over ten years, having honed her skills through middle school and high school, where she earned recognition in All-District bands. In addition to her primary instrument, Karisa teaches clarinet, saxophone, beginner flute, and beginner piano.

    At NGU, Karisa is also an active member of the marching band, where she plays euphonium. Her passion for music extends beyond the classroom, as she enjoys sharing her love of teaching and inspiring others through her lessons.

Level II Teachers

  • Alison Duffy

    Piano & Voice; Anderson Studio

    Alison Duffy studied and pursued music from a young age, taking piano and voice lessons from a young age. From 8th grade into high school, Alison attended the Charleston School of the Arts as both and piano major and a vocal major, graduating in 2018. During this time Alison also took an interest in musical theatre and music direction. In college, Alison was a Theatre Directing major with a minor in Music at the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University. She was able to deepen her strengths as a music director and pianist during this time, graduating in 2022. Post-graduation, Alison freelances in the Upstate with various theaters in multiple roles, and serves as a worship leader at Hope Fellowship Church. She is very excited to share her experience with others to grow their creativity!

  • Austin Cartee

    Drum Set; Anderson Studio

    Austin Cartee holds a masters degree in Educational Leadership and Administration and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Austin grew up playing percussion and drums in his church. Austin was a percussion student all throughout middle school and highschool, participating in many local bands and symphonies throughout the upstate. He also attended the Fine Arts Center in Greenville where he studied percussion, drums, and music theory. Currently, he is playing drums and music directing most Sundays at his church.

  • Calah Johnson

    Piano; Anderson Studio

    Calah’s journey with the piano began at the age of 9, inspired by watching her grandfather play and feeling an immediate fascination with the instrument and the world of music. Driven by curiosity, she taught herself as much as she could before enrolling in formal piano lessons, where her skills and love for the instrument deepened. Throughout middle and high school, Calah honed her craft, discovering that the piano was more than just an instrument; it became her passion and a way to express her emotions and creativity.

    Calah pursued her love for music academically, earning a degree in Music from Anderson University. Today, she is dedicated to sharing her knowledge and passion with others, striving to inspire her students to find their own connection to music. Her goal is to ignite a lifelong appreciation for the piano and to help each student discover their unique voice through this timeless art form.

  • EJ Jones

    Guitar &Piano; Anderson Studio

    EJ Jones was born in Lexington, SC and grew up going to church. This is where she was first introduction to music and a fire was born! She began taking piano lessons around the 4th grade, guitar lessons around the 8th grade and furthered music studies in college.

    At Anderson University, she studied contemporary guitar, classical guitar, neo soul guitar, and jazz guitar. She is now a worship leader and band member who serves at NewSpring Church and Upstate Church, playing acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, and vocals.

    EJ has a desire to equip young musicians with the skill of learning: how to play guitar, how to be a musician, and how to fit in any musical context they find themselves in—or want to be in. But, more importantly, to learn how to learn.

    For however long students take lessons, EJ wants to empower them to keep learning even after their lessons end. The “spirit of a student” is what enables them to be the best they can be. She believes that this kind of humility and hunger is more valuable than a given talent and the doors that they can open are endless!

  • Eric Meincke

    Piano, Voice, & Trumpet; Anderson & Greenville Studios

    Eric Douglas Meincke is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music in Conducting at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.  He also serves as the Director of Music and Worship Arts at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson, South Carolina and Adjunct Professor of Music at Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton, South Carolina. During his musical career, Meincke has studied with renowned musicians such as Christoph Eschenbach, James Ross, Bevan Keating, Betsy Burleigh, Dominick DiOrio, Walter Huff, and William Weinert.


    Meincke has years of experience conducting various ensembles around the world, including as Assistant Conductor of the Second Presbyterian Church Adult Choir, with guest conducting appearances in London, Montreal, and Barcelona.  Meincke also has numerous immersive experiences, conducting ensembles like the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, and Cantores Musicae Antiquae at Florida State University.

    ​Meincke graduated with a Master of Music in Conducting from the Eastman School of Music and a Bachelor of Music Education from Florida State University (summa cum laude).

    Meincke is also the recipient of multiple awards like the Career Encouragement Certificate from the American Prize in Conducting, the Arkansas Governor's Award for Musical Excellence, and the John Phillip Sousa Award. 

  • Hannah Dara

    Piano, Viola, & Violin; Greenville Studio

    Hannah Dara holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin Conservatory. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree. Ms. Dara grew up in South Carolina, where she began learning viola at the age of 9 in the ARMES after-school program. She later attended the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities. Ms. Dara performs with the Greenville Symphony and other orchestras in the Southeast. She participated in the National Orchestral Institute and Festival in Maryland.

    In her teaching, Ms. Dara seeks to build strong foundational skills in her students, addressing posture and the technical skills necessary for string playing while also incorporating the history and context of the music. Learning an instrument takes time, patience, and focus; but the progress that results is always rewarding.

  • Jared Miller

    Piano, Viola, Violin, Voice; Greenville Studio

    Jared Miller was born and raised in the Upstate of South Carolina, where he began taking violin lessons in 2006. Having played violin from elementary school to high school orchestra, he wanted to expand his musical studies and began pursuing a bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis in voice, which he completed in 2021. During his time in undergrad, he spent continued time taking violin lessons in addition to voice and piano. Jared is currently pursuing his M.A. in Music, and is constantly looking to develop his artistry and influence to reach others with the gift of music and all it has to offer.

  • Jordan Evans

    Piano; Anderson Studio

    Throughout his childhood, Jordan has studied music, taking lessons for violin, guitar, drums and percussion, piano, and music composition. In high school he attended a fine arts conservatory called Artios Academies, where he studied music theory and composition, musical theatre, choir, and choreography. In college he studied Commercial Music with a focus in piano performance at Anderson University under Dr. Howard Kim. Jordan has experience leading music worship at church, working as musical director for various shows in the upstate, working as a piano accompanist, and working as a collaborative musician on both drums and piano. Jordan believes music should be a fun experience that teaches skills such as creative thinking and persistence.

  • Kelly Ward

    Piano; Greenville Studio

    Kelly Ward graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance from Azusa Pacific University in Southern California. Kelly has had a diverse experience in the Arts with over 20 years experience as a musician, composer and teacher. Kelly has composed music for productions at the Warehouse Theater and the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. She has 2 full-length albums available on iTunes and Amazon and has also performed her original compositions in the Greenville and Asheville areas. Kelly loves to read, crochet, knit, yoga and go for walks.

  • Lydia Langley

    Piano; Anderson Studio

    Lydia Langley has been studying music since she was five years old. She was blessed with incredible piano instructors throughout her childhood and undergraduate experience, who inspired her to become one herself. Through instruction from her teachers and a dedication to hard work, she won numerous awards, scholarships, and performance opportunities throughout high school and college. She received her undergraduate degree in Piano Performance with a concentration in pedagogy from Anderson University. Lydia has experience as a church musician, choral accompanist, keyboardist for musical theatre shows, and as a collaborative pianist playing with vocalists, instrumentalists, and other pianists. Her passion is the beauty of music, and she is eager to impart a deep love of it to as many people as she can.

  • Maren Reaves

    Piano, Viola, & Violin; Anderson Studio

    Maren Dameron Reaves has studied violin with R. Alexander Spainhour and at Wake Forest University. She completed training in the Suzuki method for books 1-3. She has over ten years experience teaching violin and viola, including five years as the Strings teacher at the Montessori School of Anderson. She has played with the Anderson Symphony Orchestra, the GAMAC Chamber Orchestra, the Spartanburg Philharmonic, and various bluegrass groups around Anderson. She teaches all ages, including adult beginners, with the Suzuki method and teaches bluegrass fiddle to those who are interested.

  • Mary Allen

    Piano; Greenville Studio

    Mary Allen is a former school music teacher and private piano instructor.  She spent seven years as a music teacher in the elementary and middle school settings and over ten years as a private piano instructor for students of all ages.  She received her bachelor’s degree in  music education from The University of South Carolina.  In addition, she is a former school counselor of 28 years, receiving her master’s degree in school counseling from Clemson University.   

    Prior to becoming a music teacher and school counselor, Mary performed as a lead vocalist for Tony Torre and the Twin Cities Jazz Band and for the multi-genre trio group, Anthem.  She also enjoyed performing in opera workshops while at USC.

    Most important for Mary is family.  She is married and is a mother of two, a daughter living in Greenville with her husband and three children, and a son who is in spirit.  Daniel, Mary’s son, passed away in 2019, and he is remembered most for his incredible kindness.  He was also a very gifted musician, singer, and songwriter.  He graduated from Belmont University in Nashville in 2014 with his performance degree in guitar.

    Mary is now honoring Daniel by following his lead.  She seeks to spread Daniel’s inherent  kindness through the “Following Daniel’s Lead - Keys to Kindness" music program.  Keys to Kindness is a piano scholarship program for deserving students who qualify due to current financial constraints.  In addition to weekly piano lessons, students will learn about new ways to spread intentional acts of kindness throughout each week

  • Mike Cannon

    Guitar & Ukulele; Anderson Studio

    Mike Cannon is a guitarist who has been playing and writing music since before he can remember. He enjoys many musical styles including pop, country, bluegrass and Americana. Mike graduated from Clemson University with a BSEE in computer engineering and then worked as the Design Engineering Manager for NCR Corporation for 32 years. When Mike retired from NCR in 2013, he opened his own music recording studio on his lakeside property in Townville, SC, where he lives and write music with his wife Rosalinda. Mike enjoys teaching and his goal is to help beginning musicians get started and develop their skills on guitar.

  • Olivia Massey

    Piano, Viola, Violin; Greenville Studio

    Olivia Massey was born and raised in Greenville, SC and has studied Viola and Piano since the 3rd grade. In high school, she attended the Fine Arts Center of Greenville where she studied chamber music and music theory. In college she studied Music Education and graduated with a Bachelors of Music, primary Viola. During her college career, she spent some time in Marching Band and Concert Band expanding her horizons in the world of percussion. After graduating, she regularly performs as a Violist in local theaters ranging from the Greenville Theatre, Mill Town Players, Spartanburg Little Theatre and has been a recording artist for Mountain Theatre Company in Highlands, NC. When she is not performing in theaters, she is often playing at local churches, weddings and with her violin, viola, piano trio: Sonorité Trio. As a teacher, Olivia’s goal is to share her love for music, but to also strive to meet the needs of her students and to create an environment where practice is never for the act of perfection, but for the act of permanence. When Olivia is not playing viola, you can find her spending time with friends and family, water coloring, or learning something new. 

  • Olivia Darling

    Piano, & Voice; Anderson & Greenville Studios

    Olivia is a graduate of Anderson University, having completed her bachelor degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy. Olivia’s educational background includes technical, pedagogical, musical theater, classical, and operatic training. Performance achievements include serving the role of The Queen of The Night in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”, performing as a soloist with the Anderson Symphony, and competing in NATS vocal competitions. Her passion is sharing her love for musical storytelling with others, vocal health, and expanding others confidence in their musical gift. Apart from teaching, Olivia loves jazz, cooking, spending time with loved ones, and playing with her puppies.

  • Shaya Greathouse

    Piano & Voice; Anderson & Greenville Studios

    Shaya Greathouse is a mezzo-soprano, educator, and arts administrator with over a decade of experience in voice instruction and performance. She holds degrees in Vocal Performance from the Eastman School of Music (M.M.) and Biola University (B.M.) and has taught students of all ages through her private studio and organizations like American Seekers Academy. Shaya has performed with companies such as Eastman Opera Theater, Rochester Lyric Opera, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to her active performance and teaching schedule, she serves as Music Director at John Calvin Presbyterian Church and an administrator at the Eastman Community Music School.

  • Timothy Blaha

    Baritone, Bassoon, Cello, Clarinet, Flute, French Horn, Guitar, Oboe, Percussion, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Viola, Violin; Anderson & Greenville Studios

    Timothy Blaha has taught instrumental music for 36 years at the middle school, high school, and adult levels. His career spans placements at four different schools teaching woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings, and piano. He was selected as teacher of the year at two of the four schools he served. He has a bachelor’s degree in music education from The University of Wisconsin at Madison and a master’s degree in music education from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His educational philosophy for music is to have all students understand music by reading, writing and performing.

  • William Cline

    Drum Set, Classical Percussion, Piano, Electric Bass; Greenville Studio

    Growing up in Greenville, SC, William Cline began to study the drums at age 8. During high school he had the opportunity to attend the Fine Arts Center and participate in the Young Artist Orchestra and the FAC jazz combo. Then in 2022 he graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, TN with a degree in commercial percussion. In addition to the drums and percussion family, he has studied piano and electric bass guitar. William has a passion for music and for building others up and sees teaching music as a wonderful opportunity to do both.
