Instrument Acquisition

Instrument acquisition- our recommendations are listed below. You do not need to have an instrument for your free trial lesson. If you are thinking about getting an instrument from a place other than our recommended locations, please first consult a teacher at SOC.

violin, viola, cello, bass

We highly recommend renting an instrument from Bernhardt House of Violins, in Greenville, SC. Violin rental is the best starting option, especially if the student is young. Instrument rental allows you to get a bigger instrument every the student is ready to size up without having to pay full purchase price every time. A portion of all rental payments goes toward the future payment of a full size instrument.

Anderson Plays It Forward

β€œThe mission of Anderson Plays it Forward is to make music, music education and musician mentorship accessible equally and to everyone." Conceived in 2017 by Carolina Bauernhaus Co-Founder David Thornton and New Time Travelers Studio Founder Mike Cannon.”

An ever-growing community of musicians developed around the weekly Open Mic Night at Carolina Bauernhaus Brewery and Winery in Downtown Anderson, South Carolina. This did not go unnoticed by PIF founds David and Mike. They had an idea to make an album featuring local artists to promote the collaborative and creative forces in our community. This album shows the vast span of talent from area musicians, each offering up an original tune recorded at Time Travelers Studios in Townville, SC. All proceeds from sale of the album will be Played Forward to music scholarships in Anderson, SC. Supporting partners include Carolina Bauernhaus Brewery and Winery, Time Travelers Studios, Sounds of Carolina Music Academy and The Guitar Shop.

Scholarship funds are collected via album sales and events hosted by Carolina Bauernhaus throughout the year. Albums are available for sale at Sounds of Carolina.

If you are a student in need of financial assistance for music lessons and/or classes, please email Mike Cannon at playitforward6306@gmail.com for a scholarship application and to learn more.
